This colourway is particularly unique as part of a special commission of 1,600 items ordered by the ABC corporation on the occasion of the Los Angeles Olympic Games 1984. The scarf is based on the original Arcs en Ciel design of 1980 by artist Julie Abadie. This is the 1984 special re-edition with the fabric care tag on the item indicating this specific period.

The majority of Hermès scarves are hand-made silk-screen prints based on a twill-silk that is woven in Lyon, France using sericulture imports from Brazil. The designer is commissioned by Hermès and over a period of approximately six months a design is arrived at. The colours are chosen by a colour committee and cooked specifically on-site. Each item is hand-hemmed by an expert seamstress.
